In Memoriam: Ian McDonald

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Ian McDonald. His sudden and unexpected death has come as a shock to all who knew him. Ian served as the local lawyer in Wairoa for more than 40 years before Woodward Chrisp took over his practice almost four years ago. His dedication to the community and his clients made him a beloved figure in Wairoa and beyond.

All who knew Ian are deeply saddened by his loss. Our Wairoa team has been particularly affected by this news. Vicki worked with Ian for more than 30 years, and Sylvine worked with him for over a decade. Joe and Ross were university buddies with Ian at Victoria University, where they obtained their law degrees and at the same time established the Keith Murdoch Revival Choir rugby team, which they and Ian were all members of, with many of their fellow university attendees.

We acknowledge the passing of a Wairoa community legend and offer our deepest sympathies to all who are mourning this great loss.

Ian's contributions to the community were not limited to his legal practice. Ian also served as a coroner in Wairoa during his long and distinguished career and acted as honorary solicitor for many of Wairoa’s charitable and community institutions.

Ian’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through the many lives he touched and the indelible mark he left on the community he so faithfully served.
